When you open Unity, you'll see several panels. Each panel has a specific role, and together they let you build and edit games.

The main panels you'll use are: Hierarchy, Scene, Game, Inspector, Project, and Console

Hierarchy - A list of all Game Objects in the current scene.

What you use it for:

  • Creating new objects;
  • Selecting objects;
  • Deleting objects.

Scene View - A visual workspace where you arrange objects in the scene.

What you use it for:

  • Positioning objects;
  • Moving, rotating, and scaling objects;
  • Navigating the level layout. *Essential Shortcuts
  • Move Tool: W
  • Rotate Tool: E
  • Scale Tool: R

Game View - What the player actually sees through the camera.

What you use it for:

  • Previewing gameplay;
  • Checking camera framing;
  • Testing how the game looks while running.

Inspector - A panel that shows details of the currently selected object.

What you use it for:

  • Editing components;
  • Changing position, rotation, and scale;
  • Adjusting visual properties (like sprite color).

Project Tab - A file browser for your entire Unity project.

What you use it for:

  • Managing scenes, sprites, and scripts;
  • Creating folders to stay organized;
  • Importing assets.

*Good practice:

Create folders like:

  • Scenes;
  • Sprites;
  • Scripts.

Console - A message log from Unity.

What you use it for:

  • Viewing errors;
  • Seeing warnings and debug messages.

Play Mode - A test mode that runs your game inside the editor.

Very important:

Changes made during Play Mode are temporary and reset when you stop.
