Note

Unity Personal is free for creators with under $100,000 annual revenue.

Welcome! In this course, you'll learn how to make your first complete game in Unity while building the core skills needed to prototype many different game ideas.

Note
Definition

Unity is an industry-standard game engine used to create 2D, 3D, mobile, desktop, and VR games, and it's free to use until your projects start earning serious money.

What You'll Make

You'll build an endless jumper game — a simple but addictive genre where the player jumps upward across platforms to achieve the highest score possible (think Doodle Jump). By the end of the course, you'll have:

  • A fully playable game;
  • A working understanding of Unity;
  • Skills you can apply to many other game ideas.

What You'll Learn

Making games is fun. That means experimenting, making mistakes, and discovering ideas as you build. There are no mistakes here - only happy accidents that often lead to the best mechanics.

Each short video combines theory + hands-on practice. Along the way, you'll learn how to:

  • Navigate and set up the Unity Editor;
  • Import and use your own artwork;
  • Program core gameplay mechanics;
  • Polish your game with sound and visual effects;
  • Build and export your game so others can play it.

Before the Next Lesson

Before moving on, take a moment to come up with a simple idea for your endless jumper:

  • Who (or what) is the player character?
  • Where does the game take place?

Keep it playful and don't overthink it, we'll come back to it later.

Example ideas:

  • A cow bouncing through space;
  • A tortellino escaping a pasta factory;
  • A lonely noodle rising from the depths of the ocean.
