Transparency and Explainability

Transparency means being open about how an AI system works, including its data, algorithms, and decisions. Explainability is your ability to understand the reasons behind an AI system’s outputs. Both are essential for building trust and allowing users and regulators to evaluate AI-driven outcomes.

Transparent AI systems provide several important benefits:

• Promote accountability by making it possible to trace decisions back to their sources;
• Build user trust, as people are more likely to rely on systems they can understand and question;
• Support regulatory compliance by providing evidence that decisions are fair, unbiased, and lawful;

Despite these advantages, achieving explainability is not always straightforward. Many modern AI models, especially those based on deep learning, operate as "black boxes"—their internal workings are complex and difficult to interpret, even for experts. This complexity can make it challenging to provide clear explanations for individual decisions, particularly when models rely on thousands or millions of parameters.
