1. Layer Alignments

Aligning layers in Photoshop helps create a neat and organized layout. To align layers, first select all the layers you want. Then, use the alignment tools in the options bar while in the Move Tool. You can align layers vertically, horizontally, or both to center them within the document. Additionally, you can distribute the spacing between layers for even alignment. Once aligned, you can group the layers, center the group within the document, and then ungroup if needed. Experimenting with these tools allows you to achieve the desired layout in your design.

2. Image Resizing vs. Image Resampling

• Resizing: Changes image size without altering the number of pixels, mainly for printing;
• Resampling: Changes the number of pixels (downsampling removes pixels; upsampling adds pixels). Upsampling too much can cause pixelation;
• Image Resolution:
  • PPI (Pixels Per Inch): Used for digital screens; standard is 72 PPI;
  • DPI (Dots Per Inch): Used for printing; standard is 300 DPI;
• Steps for Resizing:
  • Go to the menu bar: Image > Image Size;
  • Ensure the resample checkbox is unmarked to resize without losing pixel data;
  • Adjust the size using inches or centimeters for printing;
• Steps for Resampling:
  • Mark the resample checkbox;
  • Change resolution to 72 PPI for digital screens;
  • Set dimensions using pixels and use the chain icon to maintain proportional adjustments.

3. Image Expansion and Adjusting Canvas Size

• Canvas Size Option:
  • Go to Image > Canvas Size to adjust the canvas without affecting the image size;
  • Manually input the new width and height, or use the "Relative" checkbox to add a specific number of pixels;
  • Choose the anchor point to control the direction of expansion. You can also set the canvas extension color (e.g., red, white, black).
• Crop Tool:
  • Select the Crop Tool and drag the borders to expand the canvas;
  • Options like Generative Fill can automatically fill the expanded area using AI, but leaving it transparent or adding a solid color layer is also possible.
• Non-Destructive Cropping:
  • If the Delete Cropped Pixels option is unchecked, you can restore any cropped areas later;
  • If checked, cropped areas are permanently removed, which helps reduce file size for sharing.
