The Core Story Framework
Every strong data story follows a simple structure:
- Setup β Context
- Where are we now?
- What are we measuring?
- Conflict β Problem or Opportunity
- What changed?
- What is not working as expected?
- Resolution β Insight & Action
- Why did it happen?
- What should we do next?
Instead of: "Traffic increased by 20%."
Say: "Traffic increased by 20%, but conversion remained flat, suggesting the new audience segment is less aligned with our offer. We recommend refining targeting and optimizing the landing page."
Common Mistakes

- No explanation;
- No recommendation.
Effective Approach
- Highlight 1β3 key visuals;
- Explain what changed;
- Explain why;
- Provide a clear next step.
