Note
Definition

Heuristics are well-established design principles that serve as guidelines for identifying usability issues in an interface. A heuristic evaluation is a structured assessment that examines whether a product adheres to these principles, helping to uncover potential problems and improve the overall user experience.

This method has been refined and adapted in various ways, but the heuristics are typically categorized into ten principles.

These heuristics are primarily used in user experience design, where they originated, but they also apply to game development in most cases. However, exceptions may arise depending on the game. For instance, when it comes to communicating the game's status, there may be situations where intentionally withholding or partially revealing information enhances the experience. It's important to remember that heuristics are guiding principles, not strict rules, and exceptions will always exist.
