Why Modes Matter
Copilot offers different modes to control how it responds to your prompt. These modes help you balance between:
- Speed;
- Depth;
- Learning support;
- Source-based answers.
Choosing the right mode can significantly improve the quality of results.
Smart Mode (Recommended Default)
- Automatically adjusts based on your prompt;
- Fast for simple questions;
- More detailed for complex ones.
Best for: Everyday use when you don't want to think about switching modes.
Think Deeper Mode
- Uses more advanced reasoning;
- Produces more detailed and structured answers;
- Takes longer to respond.
Best for:
- Complex questions;
- Step-by-step guidance;
- Tasks where accuracy matters.
Study & Learn Mode
- Acts like a tutor rather than just giving answers;
- Breaks down concepts clearly;
- Provides explanations, examples, and summaries.
Best for:
- Learning new topics;
- Understanding concepts deeply;
- Building transferable knowledge.
Search Mode
- Focuses on finding and presenting relevant sources;
- Includes links to websites and references;
- Builds answers based on external information.
Best for:
- Research tasks;
- Finding credible sources;
- Exploring recent or real-world data.
Business Version Modes (Premium)
In the business version, modes are simplified:
- Auto — Copilot decides automatically;
- Speed (Quick Response) — faster, shorter answers;
- Think Deeper — slower, more detailed responses.
Key idea: You are choosing between speed vs depth, or letting Copilot decide.
Key Insight
- Use Smart / Auto for most tasks;
