In this chapter, you prepare the foundation of your template.

You take a raw CSV export and turn it into a clean, structured input layer that works reliably every time new data is added.

Clean the Imported Data

Start with the raw Upwork CSV.

Instead of deleting unnecessary columns, hide them. This keeps the original structure intact, so future imports do not break your setup.

Then remove noise from the dataset. Filter out rows like withdrawals, but keep the data in place so the template continues to work automatically with new files.

Automate the Cleanup

Use Copilot to apply rules, not one-time fixes.

Once filters and structure are in place, they will apply automatically whenever new data is pasted into the table. This is what makes the template reusable.

Add Manual Expenses

Not all data comes from the CSV.

Create a separate sheet for recurring expenses such as subscriptions and tools. Structure it the same way as your main dataset so both sources can work together.

Make sure formats, especially dates, match across tables.
