How to Share Files?
The main advantage of Google Docs over Word and LibreOffice is the ability for multiple people to work on the same file simultaneously. While Word and LibreOffice have introduced online collaboration features, Google Docs offers a more seamless experience with real-time edits, avoiding confusion with different versions. Auto-saving ensures data is secure, and version history makes it easy to restore previous edits. With access from any device, Google Docs is perfect for team collaboration.
The concept of document access, like in Google Docs, is essential for collaboration in many modern platforms, allowing people to edit, view, and comment on documents in real time and share them with others.
Who is the Document Owner?
The document owner is the person who created the document or received ownership from another user. The owner has the highest level of control and can:
- Share the document with others;
- Adjust others' access levels (view, comment, or edit);
- Delete the document;
- Transfer ownership to another user.
What Access Levels Are Available for Shared Users?
Users who are given access to a shared document can have different access levels:
-
View allows the user to only view the document without editing or commenting. This is ideal for those who just need to read the content;
-
Comment enables users to leave comments but not edit the document itself. This is useful for providing feedback or suggestions without altering the text;
-
Edit grants users permission to make changes to the document. This level is suited for those collaborating directly on the content.
These access options are also available in other collaborative platforms like Dropbox Paper, Notion, and other tools that support real-time document sharing and editing.
