Company Description Union Specialty Insurance Solutions is a modern, AI\-native wholesale brokerage that helps insurance agents place complex risks more efficiently. We already hold contracts with roughly 20 insurance companies, including some of the largest insurers in the country, and are backed by a team with deep industry experience and comfortable funding runway. The environment is fast\-paced, with a strong emphasis on practical applications of AI and software to solve real business problems in a traditionally manual industry.

Role Description This is a full\-time, on\-site Founding Software Engineer role in New York, NY. As our first full\-time engineering hire, you'll help define the architecture, product, and engineering culture from day one, with real ownership over technical direction. You'll design and maintain the back\-end services and APIs that power our AI\-native brokerage platform. Implementing features, making foundational architectural decisions, and collaborating with product, data, and operations teams. Compensation is $130k–$190k cash plus 1–3% equity, depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Proficiency in Programming and Object\-Oriented Programming (OOP), with experience in at least one modern language (e.g., Python, Java, C\#, Go, or similar).
  • Hands\-on experience in Software Development and Back\-End Web Development, including building and maintaining APIs and services.
  • Experience working with databases (SQL or NoSQL), version control systems, and modern development practices (testing, CI/CD).
  • Ability to analyze requirements, break down complex problems, and deliver robust, scalable solutions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with cross\-functional teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
