About the Role

Saab Inc.’s Autonomous and Undersea Systems (AUS) division is seeking an innovative and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join technical teams developing software products and solutions for autonomous Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs/AUVs), and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).

In this role, you will contribute across the full software product lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, integration, verification, delivery, and maintenance. You will collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to solve challenging software and systems problems while supporting advanced maritime and defense technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering teams to design, implement, unit test, document, and maintain software across multiple programming languages and Linux, Windows, and embedded platforms.
  • Apply software engineering fundamentals and best practices to develop innovative solutions and solve challenging technical problems.
  • Support software modeling, simulation, integration, and testing activities as needed.
  • Develop and present technical concepts, tradeoffs, analyses, designs, and performance estimates.
  • Participate in the full software product lifecycle, including development, prototyping, integration, verification, delivery, and support.
  • Participate in technical reviews and status meetings.
  • Collaborate and communicate with internal and potentially external stakeholders.
  • Follow company standard operating procedures and Quality System requirements.
  • Resolve issues arising during software design, development, and execution.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve technical and program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline with 8\+ years of relevant experience in advanced software product development; or

  • Master's degree with 6\+ years of similar relevant experience.

  • Experience with C/C\+\+ and Python programming.

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Linux/Unix Shells and Matlab.

  • Experience with integrated development environments such as Eclipse, GNU tools, VS Code, Microsoft Visual Studio, and Arduino.

  • Experience with version control systems such as SVN and Git.

  • Experience using Jira or similar issue\-tracking systems.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies, including Scrum.

  • Experience with virtual machines.

  • Good understanding of industry\-accepted software design methods and practices, including configuration control, design spaces and tradeoffs, analyses, and requirements specification.

  • Strong software product development background demonstrating engineering aptitude and problem\-solving ability.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues during software design, development, and execution.

  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to contribute effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to work independently to meet technical and program requirements.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must hold or be able to obtain a U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%, both domestically and internationally, depending on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with U.S. defense programs is highly desirable.

  • Experience developing products or solutions for Naval and Marine applications, including robotic systems, is a plus.

  • Experience with bare\-metal embedded software development.

  • Experience with C/C\+\+, Python, scripting languages, software development tools, version control, Agile/Scrum, virtual machines, and software design practices.

Compensation \& Benefits

Compensation Range:

  • Quincy, MA: $138,900–$180,600
  • Cranston, RI: $127,300–$165,500
